About Us

Knitting Expedition was started by two avid knitters, Candy Reyes-Alipio and Aurora Mangubat-Suarez. We are a social enterprise that crafts quirky toys, handmade home accessories and woolly warmers which are hand knit by mamas who tend the rice terraces in the Ifugao region.

We are continuing what had initially begun as Ricefield Collective, started by Meredith Talusan and Anna Maltz who wanted to find way to sustain the way of life of farmers who tend to the rice terraces in the Philippines. They taught a group of women how to knit and initially they knit hats, cowls, scarves and other high quality accessories. Because of sustainability issues, Ricefield Collective ceased operations in September 2014.

We are now continuing the work to provide supplementary income for the women who maintain rice terraces in Uhaj, Ifugao - to allow them to stay on their ancestral lands and not have to find work somewhere else.  The rice terraces are an awe-inspiring legacy of their town and of the Philippines, and have provided sustenance for generations of their families.

Knitting Expedition is a brand that signifies our journey as knitters and the distance that the hand-knit products have to travel to make it to your homes.
